SAINTS SAFETY ROMAN HARPER SPENDS BYE WEEK AS A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

Roman Harper surprises Belle Chasse High School students when he shows up as their substitute teacher

NEW ORLEANS (October 5, 2016)– Today, Safety Roman Harper of the New Orleans Saints spent Wednesday, October 5, 2016 of the Saints bye week substitute teaching local students at Belle Chasse High School.

“The kids and staff really had no idea that I was coming. One of the students in my first block class- sociology, asked if this was going to be like Oprah and there were free i-pads under their desks.” said Roman, “I have a new found respect for teachers. The day was very rewarding but also very tiresome. I truly learned more from the kids than they learned from me. Although, ten plus years have passed since I was sitting in a high school classroom, the structure of a high-schooler has remained the same.”

Roman’s visit to Belle Chasse High School began at 7:30AM in the principal’s office to go over his schedule for the day. Before word of the new substitute Mr. Harper made its way around the school, there were a group of sociology students who experienced the surprise of their school year. From there, Roman “taught” English I, Algebra, General Tech, and Psychology. Mr. Harper did not show up at the school empty-handed, he brought 300 pizzas for the largest pizza party he has ever hosted. The day ended with an assembly in which he gave one last pep-talk and thanked the school for allowing him to visit.
